In depth: Delsey Montmartre Air review
Whenever I review anything coming from Delsey, I already have an expectation. Delsey is known worldwide for its quality construction and style. It is a brand that sits alongside Samsonite and is one of the best around.
Delsey have set their own standard high. Can the Delsey Montmartre range meet that expectation? The answer is a categorical yes!
The Delsey Montmartre range is good, very good in fact. The material is great, made from a ballistic nylon with a heavy denier count. This makes it strong and durable. It also has a Teflon coating with helps durability even further by offering even more protection.
The build as you would expect from a premium brand is on point. Everything is as it should be and works well together flawlessly. The materials are well thought out and complement each other well. The soft touch internal material is unusual but still a welcome luxurious addition.
The interior is expandable and has plenty of room. Included are two zippered pockets, a water-resistant pocket and a bi-fold suiter available in medium and larger sizes. There is also an easy access compartment accessible from the outside. This is perfect for keeping shoes and dirty laundry.
In the carry on version, there is a laptop sleeve that can accommodate a laptop up to 15.6”. This is in recognition that Delsey suitcases are often used for business travel. However, primarily this case is designed for the leisure market.
Wheels are often overlooked in luggage. It is beyond me why this is the case. Nobody needs or wants loud wheels when rolled across different surfaces. I’m pleased to report that this is not the case with the Delsey Montmartre. They were quite and sleek, just as you would expect. The double spinner wheels delivered smooth maneuverability.
Let’s consider some aspects in more detail in our Delsey Montmartre Air review.

Material
The material used on the Delsey Montmartre is ballistic nylon with 1680 deniers. This material is renowned for being very durable with great ability to resist abrasion and tears. It is also easy to clean therefore perfect as a luggage material. This range comes in limited colors primarily due to the difficulty in dyeing colors.
Construction & finish
As you would expect from a premium brand, the Delsey Montmartre is on point with excellent construction and finishing. Everything fits as it should and is clearly well designed. You can really see the difference with luggage at this level when compared against cheaper luggage options.
An aspect I found quite appealing was the corner protectors. This is one of the most vulnerable areas on a suitcase so it was nice to see that protection was built in.
Sizing
The Delsey Montmartre range is available in a number of sizing options which accommodate most peoples needs.

Style
The style is what you may describe as more traditional. That is not a criticism, it works well for most travelers. Much of this styling is dictated by the material and its construction. Hard side cases can be pressed into all kinds of shapes but soft sided luggage is more restricted.
However, the styling may be more ‘traditional’ but the styling is still clean lines and a minimalistic look. It looks good and is modern looking.
The design is what you would describe as typically Delsey…it stands out for the right reasons.
Wheels
The wheels are great..4 strong double wheels. Strong and stable, they give you great maneuverability. They are also quite…very quiet which is great. Let’s be honest, nobody wants or needs a noisy suitcase.
Handles
The suitcase range comes with an ultra-comfort top handle and a matching side handle. They are strong and stable with the ability to get a good grip. The stitching was very clean too.
The telescopic pull handle is also good, well built with a good feel. Delsey a renowned for strong construction and this pull handle is no different.
Locks & Zips
The Delsey Montmartre range comes with integrated TSA locks which is a necessity if you are traveling within or to the USA. It is a recessed combination lock with the integrated TSA.
The zips are good and with Delsey’s patented Zipsecuritech opening.
Functionality
This range is quite traditional in this respect. It offers simplicity but it does it incredibly well. It is robust and strong with a great finish but the remainder is pretty standard fare.
Aside from the compartment with exterior access, the remainder is standard. You know…dividers, cross straps and pockets.
All you really need to know is that everything fits and functions well together.
Value
As I have always said in numerous reviews over the years, value is very subjective. It always comes down to the individual and what they are prepared to pay.
Can you buy lower priced luggage? of course you can. Will it be anywhere close to the quality of Delsey? probably not.
I think that this range represents value for money because of the build quality, materials and importantly, it is produced by a brand that trades on its premium brand.

It combines great styling with functionality, great materials with build quality.
The weight on this suitcase was lighter than comparable luggage which is especially good on larger suitcases. It is a great benefit for any suitcase that needs to be checked in.
The simple lines and design are nice and classy. Sometimes, soft side luggage can look to busy with numerous pockets that serve very little function. This is not the case here. Everything has a purpose.
One of the benefits of soft side luggage over hard side luggage is the flexibility of the case, especially for catty on cabin luggage. . In this case, the flexibility was good but not so it felt flimsy in any way. You could feel the quality when flexing it, so fitting it into tight cabin space should not cause issue.
If you are looking to buy the carry on version, ensure that it meets the size criteria of the airlines you regularly fly with.
This is a buy verdict from me if you are looking for premium soft side luggage. It meets all the criteria required for a good suitcase.
