How to travel on a budget in your 20s;
Make a detailed plan:
Planning is essential whenever you are travelling. Many young travellers have the idea that not planning a trip is more dramatic…spontaneous and adventurous.
The reality is that if you want to maintain your budget and travel the world at the same time, you will need to plan…and carefully at that.
You should plan your trip in detail. You should search online for the activities you want to do and make arrangements for your accommodation before you leave. Take some time to understand the routes of local transport and learn the map.
Planning your trip in detail will allow you to create an extensive and detailed budget plan. You should allocate funds separately for every aspect of travelling, and you should also keep some extra money on the side for contingency…you never know when you might run into a spot of bother.
If you are saving up to go on a vacation, preplanning it can help you figure out how much money you will actually need. Although you can have a rough estimate, running through these figures is well worth the time.
You should also download some travel apps to help you with the planning of the trip. You can use apps like hopper to find flights and trip it to create a detailed itinerary of your travels. You should also use some budget maintenance app to keep track of your budget while you are travelling. Being prudent is advisable on the road.
Apply for an exchange student program:
If you are studying at a college or university, travelling on a budget can be made very easy for you. Most of these have arrangements in place to apply for student exchange programs and foreign scholarships.
This is a great way to spend some quality time is some of the best educational institutions in the world and learn from fellow exchange students from different countries.
All of the travel expenses for exchange students are paid by the organizations funding the exchange program. Students don’t need to pay for their flights, accommodation or anything else. Students are also given a monthly or weekly allowance by the organizations.
Exchange programs and scholarships are a great way for students to travel to far flung countries for free…or as close as.
So, don’t miss out on these opportunities if you are a student and a fan of travelling.
Find a remote online job to do while travelling:
Unless you have some very generous parents, it may well be the case that you need to work to save up. With traditional work, you need to work and save.
Sometimes the best solution is to actually earn while you travel. This isn’t that crazy an idea these days. Even with some rudimentary skills, you can earn money freelancing online.
The great thing about an online job is that it doesn’t restrict you to a single place. As long as you have an internet connection and a laptop, you can do your job from anywhere.
You can also start an online vlog to finance your travels. It might take some hard work in the beginning, but if you have the right tools and skills, you can quickly grow your vlog channel to make some money.
Try voluntourism:
Voluntourism is a newly coined term by the travel community. It is the combination of two words, which are volunteer and tourism. The meaning is quite self-explanatory as it means volunteering to travel the world and help others.
Many organizations take volunteers to foreign countries to help communities in need. You can volunteer to teach English to international students, or you can volunteer to build wells and homes for people in need.
It is a great way to give back to the world and help other communities that are in need, but it also gives you an excellent opportunity to travel to many countries for free.
In return for your work as a volunteer, the charity organizations taking you with them pay for your travel expenses and accommodation.
Check out websites like volunturisim.org and ProgectsAbroad.org to learn more about volunteering for travel.
Choose the right destination at the right time:
Choosing the right destination is very important when you are planning to travel on a budget. You need to look for locations that are cheap and have a lower currency value than your own.
There are many amazing and super affordable countries in the world that you should check out.
If you want to travel to Asia, these are the most affordable countries that you should look into. These are the rough costs that the following countries may cost you;
- Laos $20 per day
- Vietnam $25 per day

These places are very affordable, and for a backpacker, $30 is more than enough to get you through the day.

- Armenia $20 per day
- Bolivia $25 per day
