Are Tripp suitcases any good? It is a good question. We have all heard of brands like Samsonite, Delsey and Tumi but there are a number of luggage manufacturers, some international and some focused on local markets. Tripp are just one of those, famous in the select markets they operate in but little-known outside of those.
Who is Tripp?
Tripp are the leading manufacturer of Luggage in the UK. All their luggage products are designed in the UK. If you are British, it is likely you have heard and seen Tripp luggage.
They operate in the value range offering well priced suitcases. According to Tripp’s own words, their luggage is strong, ultra-lightweight, great quality and great value for money.
All of their products come with a 5-year guarantee.
They principally sell online and are the main suppliers of luggage at Debenhams, a large department store operator in the UK.
Where do they operate?
Aside from the UK where they are the main suppliers at Debenhams, they are also the main supplier at Magasin du Nord, with over 150 locations across the UK, Ireland and Denmark.
They also supply the consumer markets in Germany, France and Sweden.
What do they make?
As we know, they are luggage manufacturers with their luggage ‘designed’ in the UK.
This generally means that they are manufactured elsewhere. It would be safe to say that they are manufactured in China.
The make a range of luggage designed primarily for the holiday market. Both soft and hardcases, they produce a range of product styles and sizes from carry on to the largest family sizes.
- Hard cases
- Soft cases
- Hand luggage
What are the positives about Tripp luggage?
With over 20 years of operation, they have a strong following in their markets. This is principally down to their relationships with their major retailers. Their target market is well served by their products.
They are known for the following:
- Budget pricing
- Wide range of styles and colors
- Range of sizes
What are the negatives about Tripp luggage?
Although there are always incidents of poor quality goods, an issue of quality control rather than the norm, general issues do surface.
There is a legitimate question regarding the quality of production. Some of the criticism in reviews has focused its attention on the following areas;
- Levels of waterproofing – tests show some of the ranges leak water into the case
- Handles, basic designs sometimes don’t have side handles making them difficult to carry instead of wheel
- Wheel noise
Obviously, it goes without saying that you need to look at individual reviews of products to get a full idea, so it may be unfair to judge at such a high level.
To get a full idea of what you are getting, it is best to read a full review and user feedback on places like Amazon.
Would I recommend Tripp…are Tripp suitcases any good?
From what I have seen and read, it would be difficult for me to recommend Tripp. This is not a scientific test result, it is based on the general feedback I have read and actual user experience.
You have to acknowledge that there are many luggage manufacturers who have a gold star reputation. A reputation that has been hard fought and won.
I would stick to those mainstream brands such as Samsonite and Delsey. They have solid reputations with rock solid warranties and customer service to back their products.
This is just my personal view and obviously there may be a number of factors that may affect your decision making.
Much of your decision making may be based on price…which is understandable. The old saying is that you get what you pay for. In the case of Tripp, this may well be the case.
Who else should you consider?
There are a number of brands you could consider instead of Tripp but you should always read reviews of the individual products to really get an idea. Products are made to suit different markets and budgets.
Here are some of the brands you could consider.
This is a brand owned by the same company as Samsonite so you can be assured of their reputation in the luggage market.
They offer a wide range of product designs, styles and sizes to suit all budgets. They are generally focused on the holiday market and the designs generally reflect that.
The quality is good and they offer excellent value for money. They are well worth looking into as they come with fantastic warranties that actually deliver.
Another brand that is well known in the UK and has a loyal following. Their products have a reputation for good design and excellence. They sit above Tripp in the market and are marginally more expensive, however there is a quality difference.
If you are considering Tripp, it may be worth having a look at Antler as well.
Well we all know about the reputation of Samsonite. It is the global leader in luggage for good reason. Quality products and styles available at a range of price points. What really stands out though is the warranty. We know that luggage can take a bashing which is no fault of your own.
Trust me when I say that the warranty can make a real difference to your customer experience.
